March 2008
It has been almost three years to the day that I find myself back in my studio getting rid of the dust and cobwebs and becoming immersed into painting again. It is wonderful to smell the turpentine and linseed oil again and to enter the little world that will always be part of me. The last three years have brought joy in another form. Becoming a parent is a whole new journey of it’s own, discovering a lot about oneself as well as the new life you bring in to the world and suddenly there are a new set of priorities. I can now allow my painting to creep back in to my life which is a great feeling.
My first painting in three years is probably one of the most challenging paintings I have ever done and it has been difficult finding the courage to start but now it is a lot of fun. The painting is a commission, an oil landscape of the Chyulu Hills and about 8ft wide x 3ft high. I hope to continue developing with my painting and hope to produce some new and exciting work.
April 2005 News
With the arrival of our son 'Charlie' last month, I am not
going to have as much time available to produce original paintings as
I did before. Whilst I still plan to get in my studio as often as possible
I have decided that the time is now right to announce the release of my
first full colour limited edition print. I am delighted with the quality
of the print which is thanks to the hard work of Alan Dobson of Newcastle
Fine Art.
They are Lithographic prints laid down by hand four times
during the print run. It therefore takes nine hours to achieve 100 B1
sheets, using 300 gsm neutral Ph, coated matt board with light fast inks.
This edition of the oil painting titled 'Shadow the leopard'
is limited to only 100. The image size is 66 cm x 39cm with border and
sells at £100 (US$190). For those of you who are interested please
reserve your print as soon as possible.
I plan to release one full colour limited edition print
a year and would appreciate your suggestions as to which you would like
to see printed next. Two popular choices so far seem to be the oil painting
of 'Mama Nchoe' and the watercolour of the 'Buffalo Brigadier'.
I now also have two of my grahite drawings available as
prints. We have taken digital files from scanned transparencies to create
two limited edition fine art giclee prints. The prints have been produced
to exacting archival standards using the highest caliber inkjet machinery
available and museum grade papers and pigmented inks. 255gsm Somerset
enhanced 100% cotton mouldmade paper is used, which is very close to the
paper I use for the original drawings.
Please contact us if you are interested in any of the above as we now
have a distributor in the UK who will post the prints to anywhere in the
world.
February 2005
I have now met my chosen fine art printer personally who
is in Northumberland in the UK. So the first print production is underway,
which for those of you who have seen most of my work is ‘Shadow’
the leopard snoozing in the branches of a wild olive tree. It will be
a full colour lithographic print and almost the same size as the original
painting, which is owned by Mr Mark Hannah, San Diego, California, USA.
The preparation to proof stage takes about a month and then about 100
limited edition prints will be produced. All will be signed and numbered
so if anyone would like to reserve a number please let me know as soon
as possible.
The ‘Shadow’ painting is an oil but I do plan
to print a few watercolours and graphite pencil pieces too so will keep
you updated.
Keep a look out also on the graphite gallery as a few new
pieces will be appearing for sale. The prints should be available from
about April 2005.
October 2004
Nearing the end of the year and we have had an incredible
season in our camp with the most amazing game viewing. I have been gathering
a lot of reference for the new work next year.
I am also embarking on the production of limited edition
fine art prints. There have been some real favourites over the years and
for those who have been disappointed when they find out the original has
sold, there will now be the option to have a high quality print.
I have spent a lot of time trying to find the right printer
who is going to take special care to produce prints of the highest quality.
I hope to start the process early next year, and so you’ll see these
on the site when available.
